If you are an American Olympics fan, chances are you weren’t too excited about Australian Ariarne Titmus’ victory over American star Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle. Regardless, as the Titmus coach more than made up for that with his own celebration on the sidelines. Dean Boxall, known for his intense coaching style, became even more known for his intense reaction as he tore off his mask, screamed and hit a railing. Like Titmus’ upset victory, it’s a performance you just have to watch for yourself. Boxall told Australian Channel 7 his celebration was inspired by wrestler Ultimate Warrior, while advertisers compared him to Back to the futureby Doc Brown and Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. “When I saw the race go, I couldn’t keep it,” Boxall said. The coach then apologized – not for stealing the show or a crass celebration, but for taking off his mask in the midst of it all. “I just lost him at the time,” he said. As for Titmus, she didn’t care about her trainer’s excitement, later declaring to the press that it was “classic dean”. Expect to see more of this classic Dean on display during the 200m freestyle final on July 28, where Titmus is once again a shoo-in alongside Ledecky.
