Arkansas Police Chief called for violence against Democrats

Lang Holland, who was police chief for the city of Marshall, Arkansas, which has a population of around 1,300, has sparked outrage among local residents and locals alike after making disturbing comments online in recent days. In addition to repeating repeatedly that Democrats should be killed, he shared QAnon conspiracy theory memes and claimed the election was stolen.

“Death to all Marxist Democrats,” Holland said on Speak, a new social media site popular with conservatives and used as an alternative to Twitter. “Take no prisoners, leave no survivors !!”

One image he shared depicted a group of Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, wearing prison overalls. Underneath the picture he wrote: “I pray that everyone in this picture will be hung on the gallows and drawn and quartered !!!! Nothing less is acceptable.”

CNN was unable to reach Holland for comment. His Talking account was made private on Saturday.

Mayor Marshall Kevin Elliott released a statement on Saturday saying Holland had resigned from his post, effective immediately.

“The City of Marshall strongly condemns Mr. Holland’s actions in his social media posts,” Elliot wrote in the statement. “The Marshall community does not in any way endorse or condone intimidation or threats of violence against anyone of any political persuasion … the Marshall Police are here to serve and protect EVERYBODY.”

Elliott said he called a meeting with Holland on Saturday after his phone continued to ring with calls from people who had seen the chef’s messages on Speak – messages also broadcast on Twitter and Reddit.

The mayor said he was surprised and disturbed to discover the publications. He described Holland as a “hero” who had toured internationally and said he “is very, very American”. But he said Holland’s social media posts were irrelevant.

“This is not acceptable for the city of Marshall,” he said. “We don’t care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat. You are a voice and you have a right.”

Holland made national news earlier this year when it publicly refused to implement the state’s Covid-19 mask mandate.
