Updated by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office

Three suspects of a theft in Carpinteria were arrested hours later in Goleta when a citizen spotted them and called 9-1-1. At 5:41 a.m. this morning, Carpinteria MPs responded to the 9-1-1 call for a Chevron altercation on Via Real and Santa Monica. MPs learned that an adult female victim was forcibly abducted and robbed by three suspects who fled in a vehicle before MPs arrived. One of the suspects was allegedly in possession of a firearm. MPs checked the area for suspects and issued a be-on-the-lookout (BOL) for their associated vehicle, a gold-colored sedan with a flat tire. The victim did not require medical attention and remained at the scene.

Hours later, at around 8:44 a.m., a witness from Goleta called 9-1-1 to report the sighting of suspects and a vehicle matching the description of the BOL that had been shared by local media. When deputies arrived, they located the vehicle, a beige Nissan, with three occupants parked outside a tire store in the 200 block of S. Fairview Avenue. MPs briefly diverted traffic around the scene while contacting the suspects who were taken into custody without further incident. One of the suspects had a concealed firearm on his person at the time of the arrest.

The suspects are all from Tucson, Arizona, and are identified as Barry Mullins, 22, Seanray Allen, 22, and James Johnson, 18. The three suspects were entered into the main prison for crimes including theft, conspiracy and kidnapping. Mullins was booked on additional misdemeanor charges, including carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and carrying a concealed weapon. The three suspects are being held on $ 1,000,000 bail.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the community members who were keeping an eye out for these suspects. We also wish to underline the good judgment of the witness who remained at a safe distance, immediately called 9-1-1 and provided useful information to the response units. This case is a prime example of teamwork with the media sharing important and timely information with the public, with community members being alert and immediately reporting information to law enforcement, which enabled MPs to react quickly and place these suspects in safe custody.

Police activity on S. Fairview Avenue?

By an edhat reader

Does anyone know what happened in the 400 block of South Fairview around 9 a.m. this morning? Looks like it was across the street from the Orient Hand Laundry or so. Fairview blocked off and lots of lights.
