Three young runaways were arrested after stealing two cars on the Iowa Central Community College campus over the weekend, leading law enforcement in a chase after the second theft.
Two 14-year-olds, three 15-year-olds and one 16-year-old, all female, had fled the shelter. Officers were unable to locate them immediately.
Shortly after answering the call, officers were dispatched to an Iowa Central Community College parking lot with a vehicle theft report. It was determined that the six fugitives had stolen a 2013 Ford sedan and escaped. Five of the miners were located Saturday night in Benton County with the stolen vehicle and the sixth was located shortly after. The teenagers were sent back to a youth shelter.
Officers were again dispatched to the youth shelter at around 6:40 p.m. Sunday. The shelter reported three runaways and it was determined that all three were part of the group of six runaways from the previous day.
Later that evening, Humboldt Police were chasing him south on US Highway 169 toward Fort Dodge. A Webster County Sheriff’s Assistant deployed stop sticks at the intersection of Iowa Freeway 169 and Freeway 7. The vehicle continued south on Highway 169 until it was deactivated from the stop sticks near G Avenue.
The occupants of the vehicle were the three fugitives and the vehicle they were driving was stolen from an Iowa Central Community College parking lot earlier Sunday evening.
The three minors were transported to the Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Eldora.
The Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt Police Department, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and Benton County Sheriff’s Office were involved in these incidents.
