Arthur “Scotch” Clyde MacVean, 92, died of natural causes and returned to our Lord on September 25, 2021. Son of the late Percy MacVean and Perlia Dopp MacVean, he was born in Johnstown, NY, raised in Broadalbin, NY, and lived most of her adult life in Johnstown, as well as a few years recently in Elma, NY.
Scotch was born on May 12, 1929, the 11th of 13 children. He attended Broadalbin High School where he played basketball and football. On September 10, 1949, he married Arlene Canary MacVean. He retired from General Electric, having also worked for several years at Baronet Litho Inc., and a few years for KC Canary. In high school, he worked making sundaes and shakes at the Broadalbin Pharmacy.
Scotch had a deep faith in Jesus, and he was a member of the Adirondack Baptist Church in Gloversville, and a former member of the Perth Bible Church, where he was actively involved, including as a usher for many years.
He is predeceased by his wife Arlene and daughter Debra MacVean, as well as brothers Clement, Charles, Percy Jr., Clarence, Robert and Ross, and sisters Marion Hughes, Thelma Lester, Grace Everest and Hazel Brownell.
Survived by his sons Dean MacVean (Sue), Allan MacVean (Debbie), Garry MacVean, his daughter Lisa Negus (Kelly Lee), his sister Ruth Beyer and his brother Donald, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. Scotch has so far 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The family would like to especially thank Sandy, Mary, Sarah, Jessica and Barb and the others at Mountain Valley Hospice who went above and beyond to be a blessing to our father and our family.
A memorial service will be held at the Adirondack Baptist Church on Rt. 29 Gloversville on Saturday October 9. Visitations will be at 11:00 a.m. and service at 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral at Union Mills Cemetery in Broadalbin.
