Ashtabula County dance hall cited for violating COVID-19 state health order

AUSTINBURG, Ohio – An Ashtabula County dance hall was cited this week for violating state health orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to the Ohio Investigation Unit, Jewel’s Dance Hall in Austinburg has been cited for improper conduct – disorderly activity.

OIU officers responded to the room after receiving a request from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said.

“When officers and deputies arrived at 9:40 pm, they observed approximately 150 clients and gross violations of health orders. Almost all the seats in the bar were occupied and the customers were lined up one behind the other, ”OIU said. “Customers were gathered on the premises with no attempt to maintain social distancing and no physical barriers in place. Officers also observed patrons standing, walking freely and dancing while consuming alcoholic beverages.

The OIU said the case would be presented to the Ohio Liquor Control Board.

According to the dance hall’s Facebook page, it is temporarily closed.
