The Astros have restored the shortstop Carlos correa and right-handed Austin pruitt of the injured list before tonight’s game against the White Sox. Correa had been on COVID-19 IL, while Pruitt was on IL for 60 days all year round after undergoing elbow surgery last September.
The Astros had a pair of vacancies on the 40-man roster, so no matching move was needed in that regard. However, they will have to make a 40-man move each time they are left-handed. Brooks raley, which also landed on COVID IL last week, is returning. To free up space in the active roster, the infielder Taylor jones was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Correa is having an incredible platforming season, hitting .288 / .385 / .510 in 358 home plate appearances while playing high-end shortstop defense. Pruitt, meanwhile, will make his first major league appearance since 2019 (and his Astros’ debuts) whenever he steps into a game. Houston acquired the right-hander from the Rays in the 2019-20 offseason, but elbow issues that ultimately necessitated surgery kept him from pitching last year. He worked with a 4.87 / 4.23 SIERA ERA in 67 appearances (ten starts) with Tampa Bay from 2017 to 2019.
