HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – More than three weeks after a road rage shootout killed a 17-year-old following an Astros game, Houston police charged a suspect.

Police say Gerald Wayne Williams, 34, is charged with murder in the July 6 shooting death of David Castro in a road rage incident.

Williams was not arrested on Friday and Crime Stoppers are offering a $ 10,000 reward leading to his arrest.

A file search by Eyewitness News showed Williams was convicted in 2008 on two counts of aggravated theft with a deadly weapon, carrying a 13-year prison sentence. He was released last October.

Prior to the 2008 conviction, Williams was charged with robbery in three Family Dollar store robberies, according to documents.

In a statement released shortly after the HPD’s public identification of the suspect, Paul Castro, David’s father, applauded investigators but admitted the job was not finished.

“Our family is grateful to Chief (Troy) Finner and his detectives who worked tirelessly to identify this suspect,” said Paul. “We are calling on Houston and the community to help find the suspect so that he can be brought to justice.”

Just last week, police released a new video showing the suspected gunman’s vehicle on the streets of downtown Houston, in an attempt to locate David Castro’s killer.

Police say the vehicle is a premium 2011-2013 white four-door Buick LaCrosse CXL with round fog lights and 7-spoke rims.

Police video showed the suspect’s vehicle on Rusk and Chartres, while a second angle showed him crossing the intersection of Chartres and Commerce.

Paul and his two sons were leaving the Astros game on July 6 when they met the suspect in Chartres near Preston, police said.

The father said the driver attempted to drive past him in traffic.

“This guy, he was so close to me that he almost chipped the paint on my truck,” recalls Paul. “I kept walking and that’s when he leaned over [of his car,] I was like, ‘I’ve already let three people in.’ It’s my hand gesture. That hand gesture got my son executed and it’s not fair. “

The suspect followed the family onto I-10 East and took the Wayside exit with them. Detectives said the man repeatedly shot the Castro family truck as they turned around under the eastern highway. He continued to follow them on I-10 westbound, but pulled away at one point.

Paul’s son David, 17, was shot in the head. The father and his other son were not injured. David died just days after being put on life support following the shooting.
