At $ 2,000, the Galaxy Fold deserves more than two major upgrades to the operating system

If the comments of DJ Koh, the head of mobile phones Samsung, have something to say, the company will confirm shortly the launch of the Galaxy Fold. He had to delay the initial launch planned for April 26 in the United States because of problems with the examination units. We have already discussed these issues in detail.

Samsung then recovered all the examination units sent and confirmed that it would improve the protection around the display to prevent foreign substances from settling on it. Customers will not be long in buying Samsung's collapsible $ 2,000 smartphone. And although they are getting a very unique device for their money, we believe that Samsung should make an extra effort for Galaxy Fold customers in the software department.

Samsung should commit to three major updates of the Android operating system

The sale price of the Galaxy Fold, worth $ 2,000, may seem too high, taken in isolation. However, add a little context and it does not look crazy anymore. As we have already discussed, the Galaxy Fold is actually quite the opposite of being too expensive. Samsung is also aware of the need to provide additional services to customers so that they get value for money. This is why we spoke of a service of the type Galaxy Fold similar to that of a concierge.

This should not stop there, however. Most Android smartphones receive only two major updates to the operating system. If your phone comes with Android Oreo, Android Q will be the last major update of the platform received. Since the Galaxy Fold will ship with Android Pie, the update of the Android Q operating system will be the last. And, therefore, there would be no difference in the policy of updating a Samsung phone at $ 200 budget and the Galaxy Fold at $ 2,000.

That's not what it should be. Samsung should at least commit to three major operating system upgrades for the Galaxy Fold. With its Snapdragon 855 processor, 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage, one can hardly claim that technical limitations are an excuse. Customers who purchase Samsung's first collapsible smartphone must have an additional software advantage. A lot of his fans would only wait for the next generation (or the next) for technology to evolve a bit. It is therefore imperative that the first users get the best value for money.

Samsung has not announced anything yet about the extended support of major Android operating systems for the Galaxy Fold. It has only been a question of providing additional after-sales service, but it is not clear how this janitorial service will be useful. Samsung will probably provide more information about this once the Galaxy Fold is released.

We hope that Samsung will surprise us all pleasantly by committing to update three major versions of the Android operating system for Galaxy Fold. That seems like the right thing to do, would not you agree?
