(CNN) – Gunshots erupted after a high school football match in Alabama, leaving ten injured teenagers, half of whom were in critical condition.

The victims of Mobile shooting were between 15 and 18 years old, the police said. They were at the Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Friday night for the Leflore-Williamson high school match when shots rang out, said Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste.

Of the wounded, five are in critical condition, CNN affiliate, WKRG, reported.

Parents whose children were at the stadium and are reported missing should call local hospitals, Battise told the branch, adding that the city would not tolerate shootings during public events.

"Why do young people bring this type of violence to public events? They bring their oxen that they have to each other in their neighborhood and put others at risk," he said. . "It's unacceptable for people not to be able to go out and enjoy an event."

It is unclear whether there was a fight before the shot was fired and the police question witnesses at the scene, he said. Two people are in detention.
