DEKALB COUNTY, Georgia – At least two people were injured after police said an explosion rocked an apartment complex in suburban Atlanta on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

According to the Dunwoody Police Department, authorities were called to Arrive Perimeter Apartments in DeKalb County around 1:24 p.m. EDT, WSB-TV reported.

Update 3:52 p.m. EDT September 12: Authorities said at least two people were injured, WSB-TV reported.

Original report: According to the TV station, the police encountered strong gas fumes and began to evacuate the residents.

“It blew up the building pretty well,” said an officer from Dunwoody. BMS.

Authorities said several people were taken to a hospital in the area with burns, the TV station reported. The roads surrounding the complex have been closed.

Atlanta gas lamp said in a statement that he had teams in the apartment complex providing assistance to emergency responders.

Eboni Thornton said she was in a moving van outside the building and said she felt something fall on her vehicle, BMS reported.

“The rental office collapsed on the left side, the double doors were blown out and I could hear a lady scream with her head held high,” Thornton told the TV station.
