AT & T sued for allegedly inflating the number of DirecTV Now subscribers

One of the methods allegedly used by employees is to use up to three accounts on the same phone number of a customer, including those who have just signed up for a free trial , and to run their credit card three times. In some cases, subscriptions would have been billed to customers even though they had clearly indicated that they did not want them. Sales employees would have created and used fake email accounts in both cases.

Customers were sometimes billed for a subscription to DirectTV Now, but they were told they were paying for something else. In fact, customers were sometimes told that DirecTV Now was part of a bundle, with additional monthly fees charged.

Investors involved in the lawsuit called the "apparent success" of the service "complete mirage". They stated that "the information provided by several former employees of AT & T and its affiliates across the country collectively confirm a large-scale fraud perpetrated at the highest levels of the company." With respect to AT & T, the company stated Bloomberg and later confirmed to Engadget that he is considering "fighting these unfounded claims in court".
