Attention: the full blue flower is happening this weekend

We will feast in the night sky this weekend! It's the last blue moon of the decade. And no, it will not look blue.

This is what is called a blue moon because it is a relatively rare event. Now, there are two types of blue moons. In fact, we've had two blue moons this year, January 31st and March 31st. It was the second full moon of the month, which is a type of blue moon.

The blue moon that you will catch in the night sky tonight is a seasonal blue moon. That means it's the third of four full moons in a season. Generally, most seasons have three full moons. The last time we had a seasonal blue moon was May 21, 2016. Next time will be August 22, 2021.

So, now you know why it's called a blue moon, but where does the flower moon come from?

If the full moon of May calls Fleur Moon, it's because the wildflowers bloom in the month of May, which is also the name of the old farmer's almanac.

The moon will rise at 8:10 pm and start at 6:36 am on Sunday, so you have plenty of time to catch the full moon of blue blossom.

A fun fact that I learned while writing this blog is that there will be a blue moon on Halloween, October 31, 2020!

In addition, while watching the moon, you may be able to see the International Space Station flying overhead.
