Cook County lawyer Kim Foxx described "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett as a "washed-up celebrity who lied to the cops" in text messages posted by his office on Tuesday in response to a application for public registration of Chicago Tribune.
Foxx compared Smollett's case with pending indictments against his R & B singer, R. Kelly, in text messages to Joseph Magats, his senior assistant, on March 8, the newspaper reported.
"Pedophile with 4 victims 10 counts of accusation. Washed celebrity who lied to the cops, 16 (accounts), "she wrote." … This is not because we can charge something we should do it. "
Smollett, who is openly homosexual, was charged with 16 counts of disorderly behavior and suspected of having organized a hate crime attack on himself. Foxx's office finally dropped the charges, creating a storm of protests from local authorities.

The Foxx office has made available to the newspaper thousands of internal text messages and emails related to the Smollett case in response to a request for public registration.
