The University of Kansas’ Audio-Reader program will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an open house Monday.

The program, which plays and creates audio recordings of a variety of material for the visually impaired, first aired on October 11, 1971. To commemorate the founding, Audio-Reader will hold an open house from 10 am to noon . On Monday at its campus, 1120 W. 11th St. Donuts, awards and other items will be available, and staff members will conduct live interviews for its shows.

Audio-Reader will host a more formal celebration of its 50th anniversary with a party and fundraiser at 7 p.m. on November 5 at Abe & Jake’s Landing.
