Ohio has had more cases of COVID-19 in the last 15 days of August alone than the previous three months combined.
A total of 91,623 cases were reported last month.
Over the 31 days of August, 15 of them had daily cases exceeding 3,000. There have not been so many days in a month with at least 3,000 daily cases since January.
In addition, all but two of those 15 days with over 3,000 cases in August took place in the second half of the month. This includes the last eight consecutive days, six having more than 4,000 daily cases and three of those exceeding 5,000 cases, including Tuesday with 5,914.
The state reported 32,296 cases in the first 16 days of August and 59,327 in the last 15 days.
Cases in the last 15 days of August are higher than the 56,965 total cases for May (29,622), June (9,390) and July (17,953) combined.
Last November alone with 205,366 cases, December with 279,317 cases and January with 195,412 cases had more reported in a month than August.
COVID-19 DATA
The 5,914 new COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday are up from the daily average of 3,570 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
This is the highest number of cases reported in a day since January 21, when 7,271 were reported.
Of those new cases on Tuesday, 214 were in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties combined.
The state as a whole averaged about 260 cases per day less than seven weeks ago.
The state had a total of 1,220,900 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 1,128,409 presumed cured and 20,866 deaths.
The ODH typically provides information on deaths on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Of the 67 additional deaths from COVID-19 since Friday, five have been in Mahoning County.
Mahoning County had 24,342 cases of COVID-19 in total on Tuesday with 22,506 presumed cured and 623 people died.
Trumbull County had 18,004 total COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 16,696 presumed cured and 496 deaths.
Columbiana County had 10,115 cases of COVID-19 in total on Tuesday with 9,200 presumed cured and 236 deaths.
VACCINATION
There were 6,071,385 people, 51.94% of the state’s population, who had at least started getting vaccinated by 6 a.m. on Tuesday, including 11,804 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH. .
In Mahoning County, 50.29 percent of the population (115,009 people) had received at least one dose while 48.07 percent of the population in Trumbull County (95,157 people) and 40.75 per 100 in Columbiana County (41,516 people) had received it at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the ODH.
There were 5,609,788 people, 47.99% of the state’s population, who completed vaccinations Tuesday at 6 a.m., including 9,554 in the previous 24 hours.
In Mahoning County, 46.39 percent of the population (106,097 people) had completed the process, while 44.04 percent of the population of Trumbull (87,181 people) and 37.65 percent of the population from Columbiana (38,360 people) did so at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
