Treasury Secretary John Fraser will retire on July 31 after serving for three and a half years as Australia's chief economic bureaucrat

. Fraser was appointed to this post by Tony Abbott, then Prime Minister. former treasurer Joe Hockey and former president Scott Morrison

M. Fraser announced his retirement by publishing a statement in the media

"in the last three and a half years as Secretary of the Treasury." Fraser has led the Treasury to new heights, particularly in areas of corporate and personal income tax reform, "said Mr. Turnbull

" He strongly supported the government's efforts for the treasurer, the ministers and myself on the issues

"On behalf of the Government, I thank him for his service to the Australian community and our economy."

Mr. Turnbull said: Mr. Fraser will be replaced by Philip Gaetjens

M. Gaetjens was Secretary of the Treasury of New South Wales between 2011 and 2015, previously serving as Senior Treasury Officer, Commonwealth Treasury, Prime Minister's Department and Southern Australian Department.

The Prime Minister noted that Mr. Gaetjens recently became chief of staff of Treasurer Scott Morrison, a role he also held with former Treasurer Peter Costello.
