Police seize drugs and firearms at a former meat production site in northern Tasmania

The Tasmanian police seized nearly half a million dollars worth of drugs destined for state streets, as well as 11 firearms and property allegedly stolen.

Substances were seized after police raids in the suburbs of Launceston in Newstead and St Leonards yesterday

Eleven weapons, as well as stolen power tools, ATVs, motorcycles and a boat were also seized.

The Tasmanian police detective, Gary Williams, said the amount of drugs seized was significant.

"Tasmania is not immune to the scourge of amphetamine in Australia, this amount in a search is not something that happens very often. "

One was charged with trafficking in controlled substances and the other with illegal possession of stolen property.
