Man stabbed in 'terrifying' home invasion

The female intruder lived on the property until recently, Acting Superintendent Paul Albury told reporters,

Mr Dattilo was stabbed twice in the stomach, and the 38-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck before the intruders left . A bleeding Mr Dattilo allegedly grabbed a .303 rifle and raced outside.

"The two offenders … in a Holden Colorado and were reversing out of the driveway when (he) armed himself with a Winchester rifle and opened fire," Acting Supt Albury said.

Mr Dattilo fired at least twice, with one round hitting the driver and the other going through his arm.

The driver, who was speeding and losing blood, smashed into a telegraph pole, snapping it at the base, about 5km down the road, Acting Supt Albury said.

The 38-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Mr Datillo, who is also under police guard, is stable

Acting Supt Albury noted the "alarming escalation" of violence that occurred in a rifle being fired in the "terrifying" incident.

A man identified by police as Mr Dattilo's brother arrived in a luxury BMW at the crime scene on Tuesday afternoon.

Frustrated by their refusal, he left, telling reporters he knew

The anti-bikie Strike Raptor force was helping with the investigation, a NSW Police spokeswoman told AAP.

The woman will face the Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday with five offenses, including aggravated break-and -enter and two attempt murder charges
