TERRITORY Fisherman Simon Bochow urges "stupid" fishermen not to risk their life for a barra after watching a guy tracing a line in deep, crocodile-infested water.

"Do not risk your life for a fish, it's not worth it," he said.

Mr. Bochow was on a boat fishing on Hope Cove in Shoal Bay for three hours over the weekend and said he stayed there all day long.

Mr. Bochow was said to be "impressed" by this behavior, as a 2.5m crocodile was trapped at about 40m and the stingers season was well underway in the Top End.

"He and his companion had walked to a hole and stood there fishing," Bochow said.

"To start, his mate was standing near the bank, he finally came to join him."

Bochow thought about turning his boat around and warned the crocodile risk duo, but said the determined fishos had simply raised the warnings.

"I was born and raised in the territory and I fished all my life," he said.

"They catch a lot of crocodiles there.

"I've seen people stuck in boats out there at the tide, this area is really shallow."

Mr. Bochow stated that the two men went to the fishing spot from a nearby landing.

After their dangerous fishing trip, Mr. Bochow said the couple had no choice but to swim until landing.

"I would not do that," he says. "It's a bit silly."

On a practical note, Mr. Bochow said his companion, Daniel Nielsen-Titus, caught some fish that day.

"I did not see them fishing for fish," said Bochow.

Minister of Primary Industry and Resources Ken Vowles criticized fisho's behavior.

"Be careful," he says on Twitter.

Chief Ranger Tom Nichols told Metal tales he was "pretty shocked" when he saw the picture.

"For someone to swim and keep going like that, it's a big risk to take," he said.
