UPDATE 11pm: Police investigate the cause of a fatal accident involving a single vehicle that killed a man from Gracemere.
According to a police report, the man was 37 years old and was driving a van towing a trailer north on Bruce Road, in Mutarnee, northwest of Townsville, around 5:30 pm before the truck lost the control and rolls several times.
The driver, the only occupant of the truck, was declared dead at the scene.
The road was closed while rescue teams were present but have reopened since.
Investigations continue.
UPDATE: 8:10 pm: A man died after a truck was overturned on Bruce Road.
A spokeswoman for the Queensland Ambulance said the driver had been declared dead at the scene.
A spokeswoman for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said firefighters had to remove the patient from the vehicle.
The spokeswoman said that a medical helicopter was also present to help on the scene.
The highway remained closed at 19:50.
The Crash Forensic Unit investigates.
UPDATE: 6:45 pm: The driver of a truck that was driving on Bruce Road north of Townsville remains seriously trapped.
A spokeswoman for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said the fire and rescue teams were still working to free the man from the vehicle.
A witness who stopped to help said that the accident looked very serious.
"I stopped my truck and I ran and I went straight into the cab because no one was by his side and I was checking the pulse," said the witness.
"I checked his wrist then his neck and under his armpit where I had a weak pulse.
"I kept calling his name but he did not make any noise."
The witness stated that a rescue helicopter landed on the scene around 18:30.
It is believed that the two lanes of the Bruce Road are closed.
The vehicle, which is believed to be a truck, would have leaked fuel.
The accident occurred near Ollera Creek, near Bruce Road, near the fork of Paluma.
A Queensland police spokesman said the police were first called to report an accident at 5:35 pm.
