A thief in Western Australia stole and blocked a police car while police arrested another man.

An opportunistic thief in Perth jumped behind the wheel of a police car while police were arresting another man.

Officers left the car on Williamson Avenue in Cloverdale at 8:15 pm last night, to sue a man suspected of committing a home burglary.

He was arrested in the backyard of a neighboring property – but when the police returned to their car, he was gone.

CCTV footage shows that the branded patrol car is carried away with flashing red and blue lights.

It was located about 15 minutes later after crashing on the back of a black Toyota Camry on Wright Street.

The driver fled the scene and is still on the run.

The man driving the Camry was driven to the hospital with a sore neck.
