Biggest baby born this year, weighing 5.75kg

A mother has given birth to one of the biggest babies at a hospital in Sydney's west – and without any pain relief.

"Chunky" Parker Bell entered the world on Thursday weighing a generous 5.75kg (12lb 6oz).

The average weight for a newborn is 3.5kg, Women's & Children's Divisional Nurse Manager Helen Konowec told nine.com.au.

"Though, the range of normal can be between 2.5 and 4.5 kilograms," Ms Konowec said.

"The mother had scans during pregnancy for fetal growth."

The bonny mother's baby Nikki, had no complications, despite the big bundle of joy.

Nikki was in labor for two-and-a-half hours and had Parker at 39 weeks and three days.

The Blacktown Midwifery Group on Facebook posted the "new record" news.

Parker and mum Nikki are doing well, "the post read.

"Welcome to the world Parker – you'll be the talk of Blacktown Maternity for a long time to come."

Thousands of people have commented on the post, comparing their babies to Parker.

"This little cutie weighs more than my twins put together at almost a month old," a mother commented.

Another wrote: "My daughter is 12 weeks old and yet to hit 5.75kg."

In July 2011, Tiarla Elekana was born at Blacktown Hospital, tipping the scales to a record-breaking 6.85kg.
