Blamed vandals for ambulance boom gate delay

THERE are serious questions about whether trespbaders on a railway line of Perth contributed to the death of a Byford father.

They have been investigating whether or not pickets found discarded along with a boom gate failure around 10.30pm on Thursday.

The boom gates were subdued.

Paramedics were stuck in the traffic hold up on Thomas Road and were delayed in arriving at the 60-year-old's home.

"They were traveling to the patient's address when this incident occurred," St John spokesperson said.

"After picking up the patient, paramedics attempted resuscitation on the patient at Armadale Hospital."

The man sadly died.

Mundijong Police said vandals had delayed the ambulance.

"To the irresponsible person who is triggering the train crossing … congratulations you are in delaying an ambulance on its way to an emergency."

Transperth has confirmed the boom gate was brought back around 10.25pm with a technician dispatched 15 minutes later.

The gates came back up at 10.47pm, hours before the technician arrived.

That technician failed to find fault with the gates.

Police searched the tracks overnight and found several suspicious items.

According to 7 News, it was only once they were removed that the gates went up.
