QUEENSLANDERS is asked to pay attention to a new scam circulating around emails, telling potential victims that they have been chosen as jurors.
The Queensland Department of Justice responded to this fake email they will hear about the jury's duty in the form of a printed letter.
The letter, referred to as the prospective juror's notice, is sent directly to a person's home and includes a questionnaire and a request for an excuse
. the return questionnaire, the person can possibly receive a convocation of the department which, again, is only sent by a direct letter.
The phishing scam, which comes with the subject "Australia Justice Prompt," encourages victims to click on a "You have been selected to participate in a court proceeding as a juror," reads in the e-mail.
"As an Australian citizen, contribute your own quota to the justice system. is very important.
"Click on the link (justice.gov.au) to save your information in order to obtain a jury number.
" Good luck. "
A Queensland Police spokesman said They received direct complaints about emails, but they said similar scams were becoming an option of choice for pirates.
Scams where the hackers claim to be government agencies appear to surface every year.
