Strawberry Contamination Crisis Adelaide man accused short faces

An Adelaide man accused of staging a false claim about a contaminated strawberry has protested his innocence outside court.

Paul Wright, 34, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court for the first time today because of his arrest over allegedly making a false claim about sabotage sabotage.

"I did make the claims but what happened, actually happened," Mr Wright told reporters.

The court heard today at Woolworths at Gilles Plains.

When asked what he said about the strawberries, Mr. Wright replied, "The truth."

On September 17th, the court heard Mr Wright attended the Holden Hill Police station to report back to an incident earlier, where his daughter bit into a strawberry that contained a needle.

Four days later, the father is arrested with making the false report.

The Paradise man, who's lawyer was not present at the hearing, told the magistrate.

The incident occurred at the height of the contamination crisis, which last month gripped the nation and prompted widespread condemnation.

Police told the court Mr Wright wanted to "influence the public against purchasing goods" in order to "cause loss or harm to Woolworths at Gilles Plains."

Prosecutors indicated that CCTV footage from the supermarket and will be available as soon as possible.
