Eubanks was found dead at a welfare check after he did not answer his phone, Ryg said. Eubanks was 37 years old.

No criminal acts are suspected, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday, said Ryg.

Eubanks was 17 at the time of the shooting in Columbine, according to KMGH, affiliated with CNN.

He was in the library with his friends, trying to decide if they would go fishing or playing golf after school, when they heard the sound of gunfire.

"A teacher went through the same doors as we just entered the library, shouting at everyone to get under the tables, saying that someone had a gun, and I remember To be in shock, "Eubanks told CNN last year.
A survivor of a shooting school:

Eubanks, his best friend and a few other students hid under the same table. About 10 minutes later, the shooters entered the library and methodically pulled under each table, said Eubanks. He was hit by the hand and knee. His best friend was killed instantly.

"Obviously, after that, my life took a very big detour," said Eubanks.

"As a result of my injuries, I was taken about 45 minutes after being hit by a medicine.I remember being immediately attracted to this sensation, because it removed all emotion," he explained.

In a few weeks, he said, he developed an opioid addiction.

The Eubanks continued to fight drug addiction in their twenties, he said. Then, after several attempts at treatment in the institution, he found a long-term recovery and decided to spend his time talking about the recovery of his addiction.

His family issued a statement to KMGH that Eubanks "has lost the battle against the disease that he fought so hard to help others cope with." The help to build a supportive community is what the most for Austin, and we intend to continue his work. "

Hollie Silverman and Jacqueline Howard of CNN contributed to this report.
