As previously announced, Pokémon GO’s level 50 cap increase is currently being tested in Australia. Australian players have started reporting higher level requirements, new goals for platinum medals, and how they managed to get XL Candy.
We are bringing together the information currently available in this article, which may be updated throughout the day. Stay tuned for our complete guide to leveling Pokémon GO level 50.
We highly recommend that you read our Pokémon GO Beyond Update Guide for more details on Pokémon GO’s level 50 limit increase, important update dates, and the order of testing in Australia.
Level 41+ top level requirements and rewards
As we mentioned above, Niantic is currently testing increasing the level cap in Australia. People are progressing well through the levels and reporting new higher level task requirements on reddit.
Here are the new leveling requirements (verified by Australian trainers, see screenshots in gallery below):
Level 41
- 6,000,000 XP
- Level up a Legendary Pokémon 20 times
- Win 30 raids
- Catch 200 Pokémon in a single day
- Win 5 gold medals
Level 42
- 7,500,000 XP
- Evolve Eevee in each of its unique evolutions (7, Sylveon not included … for the moment)
- Use items to evolve Pokémon 15 times
- Make 3 great throws
- Use 200 berries to catch Pokémon
Level 43
- 9,000,000 XP
- Earn 100,000 Stardust
- Use 200 super-effective charged attacks
- Catch 5 Legendary Pokémon
The higher level rewards and XP requirements for higher levels have been mined by PokéMiners, and we share them below. Be aware that these can change very easily and the information extracted from the data is not approved by Niantic:
Additionally, ZoeTwoDots posted a video that shows the initial testing phase in Australia:
Candy XL Discoveries
To power Pokémon beyond level 40, you will need to spend XL Candy and Stardust. The full table is attached below:
XL Candy News
- You need 100 regular candies to make 1 XL candy (source). It’s pretty steep and you should probably buy XL Candy elsewhere.
- Powering up a Purified Pokémon costs a little less XL Candy, a Shadow Pokémon a lot more. Powering up Shadow Pokémon beyond level 50 seems extremely expensive.
- Trading can reward XL Candy
- Catching legendary bosses after raids can drop XL Candy
- Egg hatches reward XL Candy. The first reports say that you get 16 XL eggs for 5 km of eggs and 24 XL candies for 10 km of eggs.
