A huge explosion shook the environment around Cairo airport late Thursday night. Photos and videos shared on social media showed a huge cloud of smoke on the city and the flames. From the point of view of the airports, it was first said that the explosion had not occurred on the airport grounds itself.
Flight operations were not affected. Residents reported a loud noise that could be heard in large parts of the Egyptian capital. The Ministry of Aviation said the detonation had occurred in a fuel depot outside the airport.
