Sensation discovered in Egypt: mask of a precious metal mummy discovered

Tygkin Gyptologists in Excavations in The Egyptian city of Sakkara discovers a golden mummy mask. The mask would have been written at the time known-Persian, the period between 664 and 404 BC. J.-C., as announced the University of Tbingen Saturday.

Early investigations at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo revealed that the mask is predominantly silver but is gilded. The eyes were encrusted with a black gemstone and calcite and obsidian.

"Until now, only two other similar discoveries of an ancient Egyptian death mask from private graves are known – more recently, a similar discovery took place in 1939.

The precious mask was found on the face of a mummy found in a severely damaged wooden casket. The decoration of the remaining coffin suggests that the dead was a priest of the goddess Mut and the goddess Niut-shi-it.

Scientists have the mask in a larger burial site found in Sakkara, where Egyptologists from Tbingen have been studying modern 3D technology since 2016. The Egyptian city is located near the Nile, a few kilometers south of the capital, Cairo.

For scholars of Egyptian antiquity, the year was particularly good and it also brought other exciting discoveries.
