Iraqi Minister of Electricity on leave after protests

After weeks of demonstrations against Iraq's poor power supply, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has suspended his minister of electricity. Kbadim al-Fahdawi is suspended until an investigation is closed against him, Abadi wrote on Twitter today

. In recent weeks, thousands of people, initially in the oil province of Basra, have opposed the poor supply of water and electricity. Corruption and unemployment demonstrated. Several people died in clashes with security forces.

Iraq is currently in a power vacuum. In May, a new parliament was elected. Due to irregularities, some of the votes had to be recounted. Therefore, the new parliament could not yet meet.
