More than 500 hikers are stranded on an active volcano after the earthquake on the Indonesian island of Lombok.
Affected are 560 tourists and mountain guides, said the head of Rinjani National Park, Sudiyono, Monday. They are thus cut by landslides.
"560 people are stuck"
"560 people are still stuck," said the director of the national park. "500 are located in the region of Segara Anakan and 60 in Batu Ceper." The earthquake caused tons of rocks and mud to fall on the mountain, trails were closed after the earthquake [1965-0900] sent to search for the slopes of Mount Rinjani. The mountain has many hiking trails that are popular with tourists.
16 people were killed
The magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred Sunday 50 kilometers northeast of Mataram, the capital of Lombok. At least 16 people were killed. After the first earthquake, there were two other major earthquakes and more than a hundred aftershocks
