An inhabitant of the Leesdorf district factory had noticed the release of an odor reminiscent of ammonia or the stench of sulfur in the stairwell and shortly after 9:30 pm the fire department had notified him.
Already in the entrance area, the working groups perceived an intense and pungent smell. Since a health risk can not be ruled out, the building was cleared as a precautionary measure. The inhabitants have since been taken to the Leesdorf fire station.
The measurements were made, a high performance fan was placed in the staircase and the fire protection was strengthened. In addition, the person in charge of the task closed the gas supply valve of the building and disconnected the power supply. As a starting point for the intense and pungent smell of the sewer system, an empty apartment for some time has finally been located. "All measurements on various pollutants (chemicals or gas) were inconclusive, but unfortunately a more detailed reason could not be explored," said the district command.
Since it was no longer badumed that there was a health risk, residents were able to return home around 11:30 pm. The apartment in question was previously pressurized with a high performance fan, all sewers were rinsed with water. According to the press release, current experts suspect that even the low pressure on Thursday night was partly responsible for the spread of fumes or pungent odor through several exhaust ducts in the building.
