For the second time, the Linz Regional Court dismissed the resumption of four lost works by Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, as requested by the state capital. As indicated, the heirs of the painter Olga Jäger, who left the paintings at the new gallery of the city of Linz in 1951, have been legally compensated for 8.24 million euros.
With a document published two years ago, which had to prove the limitation of claims, the city wanted a recovery. According to the court, however, this is only possible if there is new evidence that could lead to a more favorable result and that the defendant could not make a fault without fault in the previous case. To this end, the judge went to the city archives and felt that it would have been reasonable for the city to investigate before the verdict.

What Linz can appeal is open. "After badyzing the verdict, my client will decide how to proceed," lawyer Bruno Binder told VOLKSBLATT.
In July, the city returned Klimt's "Two Lying" drawing, published this year, to Alfred Jäger, who paid back the damage (67,000 euros) plus interest.
