Demos after the rape: the mayor of Friborg calls for caution

IFriborg imposes a troubled week: after the alleged gang rape of an 18-year-old teenager, the city is waiting for demonstrations with probably several hundred participants. The mayor without party, Martin Horn, called for caution. He wants Freiburg to be a cosmopolitan and tolerant city. "I hope that the demonstrations will be peaceful and will not lead to more violence and hatred.There is no place for criminals and such terrible crimes in Freiburg," Horn said. But there is also no room for people who then exploited such horrific crimes politically.

After a visit to a disco, the student was allegedly raped by several men during the night of 14 October. Police arrested eight men currently in detention. Suspicions are pressing for seven Syrians aged 19 to 29 and a 25-year-old German. One does not participate in speculation about possible other perpetrators, said a spokeswoman for the police.

A suspect had already issued a warrant for another offense, as confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior in Stuttgart. This was not done for tactical reasons. But this had been provided on time.

The victim had celebrated, according to their own information, in a nightclub with a girlfriend and received a drink from a stranger. Around midnight, the woman left the club with the man.
