Macron meets Trump "Summit of the Second World War"

Before the "World Summit" in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron today received his American counterpart Donald Trump at the Elysee Palace. For Trump, this is the first trip abroad after the congressional elections.

Trump began his stay in France the night before in Paris with a frontal attack on Macron. His last request for a real European army called Trump "very offensive".

Memory with Merkel in Compiegne

In the afternoon, Macron commemorates German Chancellor Angela Merkel near the city of Compiegne at the end of the First World War 100 years ago. The truce was signed on November 11, 1918 in a restaurant car converted into a clearing. Instead there is a memorial.

About 60 heads of state and government are expected in the French capital this weekend, including Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Turkish Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Austria is represented by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. The highlight will be tomorrow a great commemoration on the Paris Arc de Triomphe.

Macron bursts Liberals in European elections

On the eve of the celebrations, after weeks of speculation, an important decision was announced for the EU election next May: Macron's En-Marche movement will form an alliance with the Alliance Democrats and Liberals for Europe (ALDE).
