The badociation announced the awards on Tuesday and will be handed out on Jan. 8 at a gala in New York. These are the first big rewards of the trophy season, ending with the Oscars in Hollywood at the end of February.
"A star is born" won two other awards, for director Bradley Cooper and lead actor Sam Elliott. As the best "non-English language film" convinced the Polish love drama "Cold War" by Pawel Pawlikowski.
The "National Board of Review" badociation with film historians, filmmakers and filmmakers since 1929 awards annual favorites. Last year, the badociation named Steven Spielberg's political drama "The Post" (German title "Die Verlegerin") as the best film. At the subsequent Academy Awards, the film nominated twice (as best film and Meryl Streep as best actress), but came out empty.
