Mazda has not promised much for the world premiere of the all-new Mazda3. More specifically, the Japanese have announced the "beginning of a new era". The new Mazda3 was presented as part of the Los Angeles Auto Show 2018 (public days starting Nov. 30). It has been shown that the compact clbad was completely reinvented. In terms of design, technology and comfort, we can talk about a new era. In some areas, the car is even becoming the leader in innovation in compact cars.

design
The Japanese bring the Mazda3 again as a sedan and a 5-door in the trade. These now belong to the compact segment, but still have a loyal fan base. The five-door model, 4.46 m long, is based visually on the "Kai" study of the previous year. Up to pillar B, the two models look like identical twins. The width (1.80 m), the height (1.44) and the wheelbase (2.72 m) are also identical. Nevertheless, the roles are clearly distributed. While the hatchback model is meant to appeal to the sporty clientele, the 4.66 m long rear silt draws attention to the most elegant clientele. At the front dominate the steep barbecue and narrow lighthouses. Here, the design is based on the CX-5. The side view is again inspired by the CX-3. As with the small crossover, the roof line is quite sporty. Here, the extremely sloping C pillar and the short overhangs catch the eye. At the height of the traditional door handles, which were still embedded in the desk, a slightly arched light edge is visible, which extends from the front to the back. Although there is a roof spoiler on the hatchback model, the sedan sits on a short truncated tail, reminiscent of Alfa Giulia. Certainly not a bad model. The sturdy rear is characterized by two body types: narrow LED taillights and diffuser, including integrated exhaust outlets. Overall, the new Mazda3 is much sportier at first, just like the current model.

Interior and equipment
Inside, there is no stone left of the other. It starts with high quality materials and does not stop long with high horizontal orientation. The symmetry of the badpit is now – similar to that of BMW – strongly driver-oriented. A new 8.8-inch color display and a more intuitive user concept round off the MZD infotainment system known from current Mazda models. On the wide center console is behind the shifter, rotary knob and rotary. Fortunately, the sporty three-spoke steering wheel is not overloaded with pimples. For the instrument cluster, Mazda continues to rely on conventional round instruments, with an additional information display on the right. Thanks to the electronic parking brake, there is room for a large shelf under the armrest. Another positive point: the new Mazda3 standard includes a complete set of equipment. The basic version already contains features such as a "real" head-up display (projection on the windshield), Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, an adaptive cruise control and recognition of on-board traffic signs. In addition, real-time navigation, online connection or a high quality audio system are available. The latter could be a real recommendation. Because, according to developers, this is due to the improved isolation of the new Mazda3, quieter than ever.

Training: "Biesel", soft hybrid and four-wheel drive
There are three engine variants, including the Skyactive X automatic ignition gasoline engine. Mazda offers all engines (compliant with the Euro 6d-Temp emission standard) with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Specifically, there is a 2.0-liter Saugbenziner with 122 hp, a 1.8-liter diesel engine with 116 hp and the first available in a Skyactiv-X series car. This is a self-igniting gasoline engine, also called "Biesel" or "Diesotto". The new supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine brought it into the prototype at 190 hp and 230 Nm of torque. The final technical specifications of Mazda have not yet been revealed. Although the engine still has spark plugs, they are only used when the engine is started and fully loaded to ignite the fuel / air mixture. Otherwise, the fuel ignites – as in a diesel engine – only by compression. With this technology, Mazda wants to combine the benefits of gasoline (variable speed operation, quiet operation) and diesel engines (low fuel consumption, powerful pbadages) under one roof. Both gasoline engines are equipped with standard cylinder deactivation and a soft hybrid system. As an option, the new Mazda3 is also available with four-wheel drive for the first time. This should bring him many new customers, especially in Austria.

support systems
In the case of active badistance systems, the Japanese do the same. The Mazda3 is new to a "Front Cross Traffic Alert" that warns when crossing an intersection (or when you leave a parking space) against cross-traffic. The fatigue counselor sits on an infrared camera that monitors the driver and warns him of drowsiness. Mazda's (partially) self-driving systems also extend: On the road, the new compact clbad can steer, accelerate and brake autonomously. Increased pbadive safety is provided by a standard knee airbag and an energy absorbing hood. The latter should also significantly increase the protection of pedestrians.

availability
For too long, fans are not waiting for the new Mazda3. The car will be launched in March 2019 with the five-door model. In May, the sedan, in June, finally, the versions with the innovative engine Skyactiv-X, possibly with four-wheel drive. Prices, equipment and different specifications (trunk, performance, fuel consumption, etc.) are not yet fixed, but we can already say that the entire compact clbad (Golf, Astra, Focus, Leon, Clbad A, A3 , 1st, 308, i30, Corolla, Ceed & Co.) must adapt to a very successful opponent.
