The CeBIT computerized broadcast will be discontinued due to lower bookings for 2019. The industry-related topics should be integrated with the Hannover Messe, the largest industrial fair in the world, said Deutsche Messe AG.
Digitization being the dominant topic in almost every trade show, a trade show like CeBIT is increasingly facing declining demand.
The exhibition manager, Oliver Frese, asked the Supervisory Board to step down from his duties as of December 31 – the committee approved. Bernd Althusmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Minister for Economic Affairs of Lower Saxony, spoke of "regret and respect".
Employees are currently informed, said a spokesman for the company. This year the organizers of Deutsche Messe AG have tried to reposition CeBIT as "the first digital event in Europe".

In total, CeBIT has only attracted 120,000 people in a new form on the exhibition grounds – again a lot less than in 2017 with 200,000 visitors. In the summer, CeBIT decision makers came to a positive conclusion of their new concept. For the first time, the fair was launched after years of decline in the number of participants in a retouched dress with a festival character. Oliver Frese, a board member of Messe Management, said at the time that all goals had been achieved.
At best, at the turn of the millennium, the fair had counted up to 800,000 visitors, then the curve was falling continuously. The old and the new CeBIT can not be compared, stressed Frese in mid-June. Exhibitors and partners were all satisfied. Economically, however, this enthusiasm has not necessarily been reflected.

For the first time, CeBIT took place this summer, in June, instead of March. Robots and autonomous vehicles were introduced, the SAP software company has contributed to the relaxed atmosphere with a giant wheel – and donated a new landmark to the fair. "We want to be the biggest event of the digital transformation and also attract younger target groups," Frese said shortly before the show began.
Large customers such as Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Vodafone and Salesforce reportedly supported the new trade show concept. Microsoft, however, had renounced this year's CeBIT presence.
From the point of view of Bitkom, who also sits on the show's advisory board, expectations have even been exceeded. The Digital Association interviewed its small and large corporate members who were "very satisfied with the bank," Bernhard Rohleder, CEO of Bitkom, said recently. (DPA / apa / red)
