Dominic Thiem will start the new season in Abu Dhabi. Aged 25, from Lower Austria, will host an invitation tournament from 27 to 29 December.
There are six players at the event in the United Arab Emirates. At first, Thiem will meet the Russian Karen Khachanov, who was recently surprised to win the ATP 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy.
In case of victory, Thiem will meet the world leader, Novak Djokovic, who, like Rafael Nadal, is exempt.
Thiem has just returned from a weeklong stay in the Maldives and is spending a few more days in Austria, before returning to Tenerife for the three week training camp on Saturday.
After Abu Dhabi, Thiem will participate in Doha for the first ATP tournament of the season.
