ViennaMayor Michael Ludwig and City Councilor Peter Hanke (both from the SPÖ) presented on Wednesday the main features of the announced digitization offensive, including the initial projects. This should make Vienna the main "digital capital of Europe", as Ludwig put it: "Digitization nowadays encompbades all life".

Nachsatz: "This concerns education, the place of implantation, the authorities and the health service." More specifically, it is planned:

Viennese schools. In the field of education, all Viennese compulsory schools will be equipped with wireless LAN within three years. You therefore have widespread access to the Internet, to carry out new forms of teaching. This concerns (in addition to elementary schools) vocational schools and new secondary schools in Vienna.

HealthcareWith a new system, waiting times in Vienna should be shortened. In concrete terms, better planning should make it possible to schedule appointments more accurately or to meet deadlines – in the future, it will be easier to estimate the duration of a treatment. Here, Ludwig said: "This area is particularly important to signal to the previous generation that digital scanning brings many benefits:" To learn how to use these benefits, you are never too old, "said the Mayor.

Intelligent traffic lights. In the area of traffic, intelligent lights need to be accelerated, which helps to make traffic in Vienna more fluid thanks to the appropriate traffic signal phases and to avoid congestion.

Mobile network of the futureFor the next generation of mobile network (5G network) there will be a pilot project at Rathausplatz. "There are a lot of people in one place, here you can test the network of the future," says Ludwig.

SchanigartenIn the future, it should be possible for the economy to extend the approval of a Schanigarten in a minute – which was demonstrated during the presentation. The same goes for the extension of the Wiener Parkpickerl or other areas in which the use of public space is concerned.

Group the offer. In the future, the city's digital offerings will be grouped under the umbrella brand "mein.wien". From this application or from this website, all the digital offerings of the city should be accessible or usable, "so that we do not lose in 100 applications," said Ludwig.

Grätzel digital. At a pilot test, 80 people are equipped with a smartwatch and an iPad. It is therefore necessary to check how the offers of a Grätzel (within a radius of about 500 meters) can be transmitted directly to the inhabitants of this Grätzels. This echoes Ludwig's announcement to revive the Grätzel.

"View of Vienna". With Google Streetview, you can virtually travel the streets of different cities. "Vienna View" will offer similar things in the future, but according to Hanke, it will be much more precise and complete.

Registration and registration. Future music are still changes in the recording and recording on the Internet. Here, the federal government needs to change the laws so that Vienna can apply that.

Ludwig's line for digitization strategy: "You do not want a two-tier (digital) city" – all members of the population should immediately benefit from the innovations and be able to use them easily. Hanke stressed the economic importance: "Currently, there are 56,000 employees and 6,000 companies in Vienna." (Stu)
