The Audi e-tron GT becomes a "killer of the Tesla Model S"

[ad_1]

While the marketing of the e-tron had just been postponed until March 2019, Audi enthuses its electric car fans with a breathtaking study at the auto show Los Angeles 2018 (public days from November 30). With the GT Concept e-tron, the subsidiary of VW gives a perspective close to the production of its third purely electric model. In addition to the e-tron, the e-tron Sportback will also be on the market before that. While the two electric SUVs attack the Tesla Model X, the newcomer takes the Model S in the line of fire.

New platform

The e-tron GT is the first Audi model based on the new flat floor architecture developed jointly with Porsche. He therefore uses as much as possible the serial technique from late 2019 on the first electric Porsche, the Taycan. The new platform offers harmonious proportions, a low center of gravity and dynamic bodywork. Thus, the new Stromer is much sportier than the SUV e-tron models. Such a breathtaking with the exception of the R8 has long been no Audi. Of course, GT is also there for Gran Turismo. And the e-tron GT Concept meets all the requirements of this clbad of vehicles. The four-door has a long wheelbase and fits the asphalt perfectly. The study measures 4.96 meters long, 1.96 meters wide and 1.38 meters high. The light body of the four-door coupe is built in a multi-material construction.

design

At the front is the unique frame grid typical of the brand. However, it is significantly more horizontal and flat than the two e-tron SUVs. Large air intakes cool the units, the battery and the brakes. The hood, which crosses the surface, borrows from the two showcars PB18 e-tron and Aicon. The Matrix LED flat headlights with high beam are integrated. The roofline, which was pulled back a lot, borrows from the current A7 Sportback. The current opposite Audi models fall to the rear of the heavily retracted cab. The wheel arches and shoulders are highlighted and emphasize, with the flat bottom, the low center of gravity. As for the e-tron, a lighting strip extends across the width of the rear, which dissolves into wedge-shaped LED segments on the outer edges of the taillights . We will find this feature in all the electric cars of the brand in the future. The outgoing and fluid base shape of the rear end looks like a mix of Porsche 911 and TT. As with these cuts, an expandable rear spoiler ensures more contact pressure at high speeds.

inside

The central features – four doors, four seats with a wheelbase of 2.90 meters – guarantee a generous space for pbadengers and luggage despite the flat design. With the latter, Stromer even has an obvious advantage: compact drive units allow two luggage compartments. At the rear with the large tailgate can accommodate 450 liters of volume. Under the hood, there is still 100 liters of extra capacity. The four individual seats offer great freedom of movement. The horizontally oriented badpit leaves a technoid impression. The center instrument screen and the touch screen above the center console are both designed with Black Panel optics. Depending on the wishes of the driver, the monitors can be used in different configurations: for round virtual instruments, large navigation charts with information on the range or for different infotainment menus. The control is performed via a touch screen with haptic feedback, steering wheel buttons or voice input.

performance

Since the new flat floor architecture and drivetrain were developed jointly with Porsche, the performance is of course worthy of pride. The e-tron GT Concept features an electric motor on the front and rear axles. The power of the system is 434 kilowatts (590 hp) and is based on a four-wheel drive, called E-quattro, put on the road. In the absence of a mechanical connection between the front and rear axles, the control of the electronic system regulates the transmission between the axles and between the left and right wheels. So in the future, an acceleration of about 3.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h and just over 12 seconds to 200 km / h is possible. The maximum speed is reduced to 240 km / h in favor of the range. The energy required for this purpose provides a lithium-ion battery with an energy content greater than 90 kWh, which occupies the entire bedrock flat. This provision should allow a high degree of driving dynamics despite the high weight of about two tons. In addition, Audi equipped the study with a four-wheel steering.

Scope and loading

Of course, the key issues in electric cars are those regarding autonomy and charging time. According to Audi, the scope of the e-tron GT Concept will be greater than 400 km (WLTP standard). As with the e-tron, the recovery system contributes up to 30% of the range. The recovery concerns both the electronic machines and the electro-hydraulically integrated braking control system. Up to 0.3 g recovers the study without the use of conventional brakes exclusively on electric machines – that is according to the manufacturer in more than 90% of the processing delays. The battery of the e-tron GT concept can be charged in several ways: on the one hand by a cable, which is connected behind the flap of the left front fender, and on the other hand by a non-contact induction. Here is a pallet with integrated coil firmly integrated into the car park and connected to the mains. With a charging power of 11 kW, the e-tron GT should be able to be charged wirelessly overnight. Charging takes place faster by cable because the four-door coupe is equipped with an 800-volt system. It takes approximately 20 minutes to recharge the battery to 80% of its capacity and thus achieve a range of more than 320 km (WLTP). Of course, the e-tron GT concept can also be reloaded on charging stations with a lower voltage level. This gives the driver access to the entire charging network.

availability

At the 2018 Los Angeles auto show, the series near series car debuted. The market launch takes a little while, but the production version of the GT Concept e-tron starts earlier than planned. According to Audi, the car will be ready for mbad production by the end of 2020. By early 2021, the first deliveries must be made to customers. Thus, the e-tron GT starts about a year after the Porsche Taycan. Less than 100 000 euros will initially play nothing. Audi is expected to market the production model later, but also in lower versions (about 400 hp). Then it could start at around 80,000 euros. The order of January e-tron costs 82,000 euros. As mentioned earlier, the Tesla Model S ranks among the competitors of the GT e-tron. From the fast American Stromer but could already be the second generation at the beginning. It's more like "Vorsprung durch Technik".
