At the end of February, 500 workers were infected at the same time. Influenza cases have not been reported among the 250 000 elderly people living in the state of Ob der Enns.
Yesterday, OÖGKK President, Albert Maringer, specifically called this group of people to be vaccinated at a press conference. "Especially in the elderly, the flu can be serious," warned Maringer. Sylwia Haslmayr, Chief Medical Officer of OÖGKK, also informed people over 50, especially the vaccine: "With this group, the flu can last longer, be more serious and lead to more complications" said Haslmayr. Josef Pühringer, President of the Senior Citizens Association, Upper Austria, has already set a good example.
Until February 2, many GPs and specialists, as well as OÖGKK, would still offer influenza vaccines. Who goes to the doctor, must get the vaccine (cost: 15 euros), even in the pharmacy.
Influenza should not be confused with influenza infection for which there is no vaccine.
