Kbadel (APA / dpa) – Document 14 has resulted in an even larger deficit than has been known so far. At the end of all exams, the funding gap amounts to 7.6 million euros, announced Thursday in Kbadel the non-profit documenta and museum Fridericianum GmbH. Until now, the deficit of the largest contemporary art exhibition in the world was estimated at 5.4 million euros.
One of the reasons for the deficit was the focus of the show on two sites. The 14th documenta took place from April to September 2017 in Kbadel and Athens. Their budget had been estimated in advance at 34 million euros. After the financial difficulties were known, the state of Hesse and the city of Kbadel agreed to intervene with a guarantee.
Annette Kulenkampff, former director general of documenta, retired early this spring. Sabine Schormann is the new Executive Director since November. Currently, the documenta is looking for an artistic director for the next show.
The state of Hesse and the city of Kbadel, as documenta shareholders, each account for half of the deficit. Details, why the least in the end has turned out even higher than expected, did not mention the documenta.
The organs of the GmbH would have also laid the foundation for the future of the exhibition: among other things, the parameters of a five-year plan were discussed until 2023. It must secure the 15th edition of the Exposure in 2022. An amount has not yet been determined, said a spokeswoman.
