A study regularly recommends hazelnuts as a healthy dietary supplement

Hazelnuts are full of nutrients. A study from Oregon State University, published in December 2018 in the Journal of Nutrition, shows that: Regular consumption of nuts increases levels of magnesium and vitamin E.

Every day 60 grams of hazelnuts

Thirty-two subjects aged 55 and over ate 60 grams of hazelnuts every day. Subsequently, scientists measured their levels of vitamins and minerals. Conclusion: Vitamin E and magnesium had increased significantly.

A magnesium deficiency is unpleasant. The muscles contract, the intestines revolt, alternating diarrhea and constipation. The heart is racing, the head hurts. The affected people become dizzy, feel tired and at the same time they are internally trained.

Even a vitamin E deficiency is a serious thing. Most of the time, it starts with nonspecific symptoms: the concentration decreases, the sleepy people are drowsy, their performance decreases and they have headaches or diarrhea.

The long-term consequences

If the deficit persists, the skin becomes dry and the wounds heal poorly. Infections accumulate. In the long term, the muscles break down. The motor system is disrupted, the reflexes slow down. The retina becomes sick. Inside, the cells disintegrate faster.

Why old?

The advanced age of participants has a good reason: the elderly in particular suffer from diseases due to lack of magnesium. Many diseases, especially in the elderly, are also linked to a lack of magnesium (and other minerals).

Participants also lowered their blood sugar and LDL cholesterol levels.

Copper, manganese and unsaturated fatty acids

Hazelnuts offer even more vitamins and minerals, including vitamin B 6, beta-carotene, folic acid and vitamin C, copper, manganese and healthy fats (nut oil) . To this are added iron, potbadium, zinc and calcium.

But beware. Do not confuse the richness of minerals and vitamins with dietary foods. Hazelnuts have 644 calories per 100 grams. Healthy or not, if you consume more calories than you consume, you gain weight.
