Vienna. (red) On Tuesday, the first round of collective bargaining negotiations for employees and apprentices in the retail, wholesale and motor vehicle sectors took place. Employers and workers met at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and submitted the claims. No party wanted to give a target value to the salary increase for the 420,000 or so commercial employees.
Employers and employees have agreed on an inflation rate of 2% between October 2017 and September 2018. These wage negotiations will probably not be easy either. Employees expect a sharp increase in wages due to the flexibilisation of working hours, which came into effect in September. "I am expecting very difficult negotiations," said Anita Palkovich, the trade negotiator and secretary of the privates, press, journalism and paper workers union (GPA-djp), at the APA .
Trade under pressure
Employer negotiator Peter Buchmüller, chairman of WKÖ-Bundessparte Handel, wants to "talk about everything". The legal framework issues can be negotiated throughout the year, in the CT negotiations, it's mainly about wage developments, Buchmüller told APA. He said that trade, unlike other industries, is not going well. The turnover fell by 0.6% in the first half.
There are currently two collective agreements (KVs) in commerce – old and new. The KV-old provides a gross minimum wage of 1586 euros per month before, the new 1636 euros gross. The previous year, the two sides agreed to a salary increase of 2.35 to 2.6%. Be that as it may, this year, as with metalworkers, difficult negotiations are emerging.
