On Alexanderplatz in Berlin-Mitte, several masked men raided a fund-raiser and even fired at the police during the escape. The police are there with dozens of soldiers and hear witnesses.
According to the police spokesman, Stefan Petersen, a money carrier was stopped by two cars at 7:30 on Schillingstrbade. The perpetrators broke the van, thus penetrating inside and escaped with the booty in two cars towards Kreuzberg. They were followed by a police car. During the persecution, one of the two cars was fired on the police car on Neue Grünstraße, fortunately no one was injured.
After the shooting, the police probably abandoned his persecution. In Feilnerstraße in Kreuzberg, an accident should have occurred shortly after between one of the two emergency cars and an uninvolved vehicle. The attackers then jumped into the other evacuation vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.
In a bistro overlooking the crime scene, two elderly ladies have a coffee. It's just around the corner. "We heard a helicopter turn this morning and we wondered," one of them said. She did not hear any shots. "Something like that never happened here," she says, looking excited. Police confirmed the deployment of the helicopter.
On the new Green Road, where shots were fired at the police car, there are two eyewitnesses. A 27-year-old man, who does not want to be named, tells how the two evacuation vehicles approached him in the narrow street. "They ran towards me and did not dodge .. Behind them, the police car, on which they then fired a shot." He quickly reset his car, but hit a pillar.
"You are already in shock"
"You're in shock – after all, everything went smoothly." The emergency vehicles were a van and a sedan – both black. This is confirmed by the second eyewitness. He also wants to remain anonymous. The 57-year-old was on Wallstraße with his truck on Wall Street as the culprits pbaded him. "They were so fast, it was amazing, the police barely followed them," he says. In addition, the truck hit his truck. The bumper was demolished.
The police car was probably hit in the engine. Cooling water sank on the road.
Petersen said: "Our investigation is in its infancy and we have opened an extensive investigation." With so many witnesses, the police set up a cloud Friday morning and asked for the three witnesses to appear. Several raids against money carriers in Berlin are still known: in 2016, armed people had stopped and stolen a money carrier in the Leibnizstraße in Charlottenburg on a summer morning – only a few meters from the Bundesbank. The year 2015 was stolen on the Kurfürstendamm, a fund carrier in front of the Apple store. In 2013, criminals raided a money carrier near P & C on Tauentzien Boulevard.
Silke Wollmann is a spokesperson for the Federal Association of Security Industries. Is it just a feeling that attacks of this kind are increasing? "From time to time, something like this happens, but compared to other European countries, fortunately we are not so often affected in Germany, which is also due to our safety rules," says Wollmann . "However, if, as in this case, heavy firefighter equipment is moved, nothing must be done."
Berlin is the leader in the number of raids
There are fugitive years with five or six raids on money carriers nationwide like in 2015 or 2017, but years have pbaded without a single robbery. However, Berlin is unfortunately a national leader. Why this? "The density of stores and vehicles is just higher here than in Buxtehude."
For employees who are victims of such a robbery, there is psychological treatment – "which is contractually agreed with companies". Wollmann hopes that the security employees – who usually drive two people in a van – stayed in the car. "But I suspect that, because in a place like Alex, it has to go fast in daylight, because the authors will not have put a lot of effort into the staff."
