The German Federal Cartel Office has opened a lawsuit for abuse against the US Internet retailer Amazon initiated. The aim is to review Amazon's general terms and conditions regarding merchants in the German market "amazon.de", the Bundeskartellamt announced on Thursday in Bundeskartellamt.
"Amazon itself is the largest online retailer and the company operates by far the largest online market in Germany, and many retailers and manufacturers rely on the reach of the Amazon market for online sales," said President of the Bundeskartellamt, Andreas Mundt,
Amazon acts as a kind of "gatekeeper" for clients. The dual role of larger retailer and larger market would increase the risk of disability of other traders on the platform. After numerous complaints received by the Bundeskartellamt, it is now a question of determining whether Amazon will exploit its position in the market to the detriment of resellers active on the market. The goal is to review Amazon's terms and practices with merchants.
