Car struck against a train in Wachau: death of a pbadenger and seriously injured

Weisskirchen. In a collision between a car and the Wachaubahn at an unrestricted level crossing near Drnstein (Krems-Land district), a woman died Friday afternoon.

The train had caught the car and dragged. The co-driver died at the scene of the accident. He was flown by the police and was seriously injured in the hospital. The 80 or so people on the train remained unhurt.

The railway line was en route to Krems when it collapsed at around 3:20 pm between Drnstein and Weienkirchen. The wagon dragged the wagon about 50 meters, reported the District Fire Brigade, Krems.

An ambulance was among the first responders, but the pbadenger could not be saved. The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident. "The driver of the car was trapped and could be saved," said the director of the mission, Markus Bauer, of Drnstein's volunteer fire department. The seriously injured driver of the car with a German registration plate was supplied for the first time at the scene of the accident and was transported by the AMTC emergency doctor helicopter. The crossing between Weienkirchen and Drnstein is secured with the cross and the St. Andrew stop sign. The Wachaubahn air season this year until Sunday, October 28th. After the accident on Friday, a rail replacement service between Krems and Emmersdorf was set up. On Saturday, the rail operations again scheduled, recorded on request a spokesman for NVOG in the evening.

After the accident, eleven vehicles from the Drnstein, Krems and Weienkirchen fire departments, the police and the Red Cross with the first responders, an ambulance vehicle and three rescue vehicles were used. After a little over two hours, the fire department was able to intervene again.
