Cup of Europe: URW has no chance – Zwettl

The Finnish champion played in the Zwettler Stadthalle to clarify and clearly lead the victory.

ZWETTL (bs). The Union Volleyball Waldviertel celebrated on 27 November 2018 a highlight of the current season. The duel on the international scene was on the program with the Finnish master Sastamala. The guests from the far north were clearly favorites in the first leg at the Zwettler Stadthalle. They failed only during the qualification in the Champions League, so they won the Waldviertler zugelost at the second highest European competition.

Strong phases

Although the guests started better than the Waldviertel, they were able to retaliate in the first set and secure the provisional equalizer at 18:18. But the Finns again played their superiority and secured the section with 25:20.
In the second round, Waldviertel coach Zdenek Smejkal called on his recently injured scorer, Lukasz Szarek. He was able to put good accents, but from the middle of the stage, the guests went higher again and gained a safe lead. In the end, there was a 25:17 book.
Northern Europeans also took this mood in the third set. They started powerful, punchy and fast gameplay. Although the Waldviertlers were able to defend themselves over and over, they eventually had to acknowledge their superiority. At 25h16, the third lap clearly touched the Sastamala team in south-west Finland.
"The Finns were a top clbad, showed a flawless overall performance and are the deserved winners," summed Waldviertel manager Werner Hahn at the end of the match.
In the middle of the third set, the Finnish central blocker provided a moment of shock, while he had to be cured for circulatory problems and on the ground.
